Kochi Prefecture
During my trip to Kochi, I explored the Shimanto River, Cape Ashizuri, Kashiwajima, and the Sukumo area, using sightseeing buses departing from Nakamura Station and other transportation.
Around Kochi City, I also ventured farther afield to places such as Niko-buchi and Katsurahama Beach.
At Cape Ashizuri, I was able to see the beautiful Milky Way, and at Kashiwajima, I unexpectedly encountered dolphins. The trip turned out to be even more wonderful than I had expected.
Kochi is famous for katsuo no tataki (seared bonito), but once I was there, I discovered that there are many different ways to enjoy it. It is served not only in the traditional style but also in a variety of dishes, and even the same “tataki” can taste quite different depending on the restaurant and its seasoning. Comparing the different versions was part of the fun.
I could have eaten it every day without getting tired of it, and I think katsuo no tataki can be one of the great pleasures of a trip to Kochi.
Itinerary
Day 1: Haneda → Kochi Airport → Kochi Station → Nakamura Station → Dragonfly Nature Park → Shimanto River Houseboat Cruise → Cape Ashizuri (overnight)
Day 2: Cape Ashizuri → John Manjiro Museum → Tatsukushi Marine Park → Kannon-iwa Rock → Kashiwajima → Sukumo History Museum → Nakamura Station (overnight)
Day 3: Nakamura Station → Kochi Station → Nagoya Chinkabashi Bridge → Niko-buchi → Suisho-buchi Pool → Katsurahama Beach → Kochi Airport → Haneda
